In a tight race that saw pivotal votes pour in until the very last minute, The Innovation Project™ Organizing Committee is proud to announce the winners of the “Best in Show” Award. Given to the top three startups who most impressed attendees during last week’s Innovator Expo, first place goes to Chicago-based money transfer upstart Pangea Payments, with second going to social banking startup Waspit, and third to mobile payment plaform Leaf. Pangea will receive the grand prize, a $10,000 cash grant from PYMNTS.com, to continue to fuel the growth of their disruptive technology platform. Waspit will receive $7,500 and Leaf will receive $5,000.

“Showcasing our demo at The Innovation Project was a remarkable opportunity,” said Rahier Rahman, CEO of Pangea Payments. “We appreciate the unprecedented access to major thought leaders and are humbled by the support we received for our vision. We look forward to continuing development and delivering a game changing product.”

The Innovator Expo at The Innovation Project featured 40 of the industry’s hottest startups, many of whom demonstrated their disruptive FinTech for the very first time in front of a delegation of seasoned industry executives and influential venture capitalists. Votes were tabulated by leveraging short codes from StarStar, which allowed The Innovation Project delegates to vote by simply making a phone call from their mobile device.
